Wild turkeys are smart, perceptive and naturally suspicious of potential threats. To boost turkey hunting success a good turkey hunter must compensate for the intelligence of their prey. One of the best ways to bring the turkeys into range without being spotted, especially while drawing your gun or bow, is to use turkey decoys.
Hen decoys are great during mating season as a dominant tom will likely take interest in the new “hen” in his territory. On the other hand, a prominent male decoy can act as a threat to the dominant bird, drawing him in to size up the competition. Either way the turkeys eyes are on the other “bird” giving you the opportunity to draw and fire.
Turkey Decoys
With the naturally perceptive nature of wild turkeys, decoys are a great way to divert their attention. A well placed decoy will draw the turkey away from you, opening an opportunity to draw your weapon without notice to line up that perfect shot.
